Sweet Sunless Tanning Recipe
To make this sweet and simple recipe you will only need 4 easy to find ingredients:
- 6 cups of Water
- 6 large peeled Carrots
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/4 cup Aloe Vera
Step 1 – Give your carrots rinse and then slice them into small pieces.
Step 2 – In a large pot, bring your 6 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, add in your carrots and brown sugar.
Step 3 – Let your mix simmer over low heat for at least 3 hours. You really want to see the water stealing the color from all those carrots.
Step 4 – Once your ingredients have simmered long enough, let them cool down. This may take 30-60 minutes.
Step 5 – Now that everything is cool, strain the liquid into a spray bottle, add in your aloe vera, give it a good shake and them apply to your skin.
As you can imagine, this particular sunless tanning recipe my come out looking a little more orange than bronzed if you don’t apply it properly. So, in an effort to prevent the Oompa Loompa effect, here are a few sunless tanning tips to remember:
- Exfoliate in the shower prior to applying any sort of tanning product. Exfoliation helps slough away dead skin cells that can make your sunless tanner looking blotchy or stained.
- Avoid using any moisturizers containing oil beforehand. Oily moisturizers create an invisible barrier on your skin and prevent sunless tanners from soaking in. Long story short, your faux-glow won’t last very long if you don’t follow this step.
- Don’t overdo it. I get that you want to look bronzed, but be patient. Allow your sunless tanner a few hours to really soak in and present itself before applying more. The longer it sits on your skin, the greater the opportunity it has to color your skin.
Since you have a little time before hitting those beaches, try adding a few foods that tan your skin naturally to your diet. Foods like spinach, kale, carrots and tomatoes are all good choices.
