The Best Summer Lipstick Colors for a Perfect Pout

Written by 0 comments

The best summer lipstick colorsI wasn’t one of those little girls who liked to play with her mother’s makeup. Perhaps it was because my mom never really wore any or maybe it was because all my best friends were boys.

Though my mom didn’t dig eyeshadow and foundation, she always had a few lip shades. She would have pinks and reds, browns and neutrals, all of which suited her perfectly.

It took me nearly 25 years to start exploring lip shades the way my mother had. I always assumed that they didn’t suit my skin tone or made me look weird. I was just being crazy.

Now that I’m more comfortable highlighting my pout, I pay more attention to the seasonal lipstick trends.

With that being said, it’s time to delve into this summer’s hottest lipstick colors. And yes, I’m aware that summer is half over. And no, it’s never too late to add the perfect pop of color to your pout.

4 Summer Lipstick Colors for a Pashable Pout

A Pop of Red

The Spring fashion shows highlighted pale lips, but that didn’t stop red from powering it’s way into the summer months. Creamy scarlet hues and matte crimsons generated a lot of buzz amongst Burberry and Prada models and campaigns.

The key to attaining the perfect red pout is to really highlight the shape of your lips. Outline the outermost part of your lip in red pencil and fill it in with your fave shade of rouge. This will make your lips appear fuller and plumper.

Be mindful when choosing a new red lip shade. It’s no secret that many red lipsticks contain harmful ingredients like carcinogens and lead. Take a good look at the ingredient list and consult the manufacturer’s website if you  have any concerns.

After all, you don’t want to be smacking those lips and ingesting all of those less-than-appealing chemicals, do you?

Orange You a Trendsetter

Hehehe, yet another classic orange joke. So funny, I bet you’re still doubled over in giggles! No? Just me?

Getting back to business though, I can’t think of anyone who dominates the orange lip more than Coco Rocha. Girlfriend has websites dedicated to her many lip colors and she sure knows how to rock them.

Orange really took off this season with shades ranging from bright tangerine to softer cantaloupe shades. Best paired with a flawless faux-tan (not the Oompa Loompa Snooki tan though!) and some serious confidence, this is one of the great summer lipstick colors to brighten up your day.

Lovely Lavender

If you were like me and felt a little self conscious trying on lip shades, this next trendy color is going to be perfect for you!

Dip your toes into the color pool with a soft lavender lip. Lavender is super girly and flirty, without being super bold. It looks good against pale or tanned skins and the hint of blue gives it an unexpected edge.

If you’re feeling bold, go for a brighter fuschia shade. It’s fun, it’s flirty and it’s oh-so-summery!

Flawless Finish

Okay so it’s not one of the summer lipstick colors but it is a summer trend, and I want you ladies to look your very best so I included it.

You’re welcome.

I’ve always been partial to a glossy lip because I often choose neutral lip shades. This season though, shine is out and matte is in.

For a flawless matte lip finish, be sure your lips are smooth. Use a lip scrub before hand to exfoliate any dead skin away. Pre-bedtime lip serums are a great way to maintain perfect puckers too. After all, if your lips are chapped and unhealthy, matte won’t be your best look.

One final tip: Carry a little mirror with you. I am the queen of lipstick on the teeth so for heaven’s sake, learn from me and check with your mirror before smiling in public. That orange lip shade may look great on your lips, but will not do your teeth justice.

So ladies, which summer lipstick colors are you going to try first? Dish your thoughts below!
