How To Whiten Your Teeth Naturally

Written by 14 comments

Red wine and coffee: two of my biggest vices. Gawd, I love ’em! But the downside to these two sweet nectars from the Gods is they are possibly the two biggest culprits to dulling your teeth. Add cigarettes to that list if you smoke and you have a recipe for a mouth full of dull, greyish teeth.

Not exactly pearly white.

Luckily for my fellow coffee-sippin’-red-wine-drinkin’ readers, I have a quick and easy guide on how to whiten your teeth naturally.

So save those dolla dolla billz, stop buying those expensive whitening treatments, and start whitening your teeth at home naturally!

What You Need

What makes this recipe oh-so-awesome is not just its whitening power, but its ingredients list consisting of, oh, TWO ingredients!

All you need is:

  • 2 strawberries
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

That’s it. Think about it, that’s about 50 cents worth of ingredients!

Compare that to the hundreds you could spend at your dentist or in any pharmacy and you’ll be wondering why the hell you hadn’t be using this treatment all along.

So now that you have your ingredients, what do you do?

How To Whiten Your Teeth Naturally

  • Chop your strawberries and place in your bowl
  • Mash up the strawberries with a fork until it’s quite smooth
  • Add in your baking soda and continue to stir your mixture until it turns into a paste
  • Grab a clean toothbrush (not your regular toothbrush), dip it into your mixture, and start to brush your teeth
  • Continue to brush your teeth for 2 minutes
  • Rinse your mouth thoroughly
  • Marvel at how clean and sparkly your smile looks

Why This Teeth Whitener Works

Thanks to the salicylic acid found in strawberries, these little tasty wonders actually work to scrub away stains and whiten your teeth gradually.

On top of that, strawberries contain malic acid which helps to increase saliva production, naturally helping to wash away any food that can get stuck in our teeth, and cleanse away bacteria that may sit on the surface of our teeth and gums.

The baking soda, however, works as a powerful bleaching agent that penetrates deep into our enamel and scrubs away stubborn stains.

Some people may prefer to only use baking soda but I have found that the combination of strawberries and baking soda is just as effective, yet is more gentle on your teeth and gums in the long run.

However, make sure you only use this natural teeth whitener once a day to avoid any possible damage to your gums, and use a solid toothbrush, preferably electric, to ensure your smile stays in top-notch shape. I personally am currently diggin’ the 30 Second Smile. I tried it out after an unfortunate toilet incident and haven’t looked back!

Now before you run off and start brushing those pearly whites back to their pearly white state, I want to hear from you!

Specifically tell me, have you tried this DIY teeth whitener or do you have any of your own tips on how to whiten your teeth naturally? Tell me in the comment section below and let a sistah know!

  • It depends on your teeth but I would say maybe a week or two if you don’t need severe whitening action :)

  • I just tried this out, and I saw a HUGE difference! But I had a lot left over, is there anyway I can save it? Or do I have to make the combination every single time?

  • Oh of course, it should last for up to 5 days or so :-) Glad you liked it!!

  • Can you use any other fruit beside strawberries?

    Reply
  • No because you need the salicylic acid content of the strawberries :)

  • Can you use this with regimen along with normal brushing? Is there a regular tooth paste brand that you would recommend to go with it?

    Reply
  • Yep, brush as you normally would :)

And I would recommend a brand but I’ve been living in Thailand for nearly a year and all the brands here are completely different and I feel like I can’t even remember the brands from home anymore lol!
