How To Make Homemade Beauty Products for Gifts This Holiday Season

Ideas for creative and homemade beauty products for gifts

It’s almost that time of year!! The most wonderful time of the year in fact! That time of year where we get pressies! *jumping up and down like a giddy little school girl*

It is also that time of year where we have to rack our brains for ideas that haven’t been done a hundred times over. *stops jumping and starts to pout*

Not only can gift giving get expensive but the last minute mall scramble can really make a girl twitch. That’s why this year I’m putting my foot down. That’s right I’m saying ‘to hell with the mall’ (never thought I would say that!) and making my own homemade beauty products for gifts.

Awww yeah, I’ll be saving some serious cash-money while also embracing my inner creativity and gifting my fave gals with personalized homemade beauty products that are not only good for them but will help them look their very best this Holiday Season!

Want to make your own homemade beauty products for gifts this year? Read on.

Shine On Sisters

If there is one thing winter can really do it’s zap the lustre right out of your hair. Like I mentioned in my post on winter hair masks, the way we treat our hair during the winter should be different to how we treat it during the summer months.

Habits such as letting her hair air-dry in the winter can cause more damage than good, leaving it full of split ends, frizzed out, or a little lack lustre.

Luckily, I have just the thing for you ladies wanting to bring back that lovely lustre to your luscious locks….try and say that 3 times fast!

Behold a handy hair treatment that makes for a great gift, but you can drink while putting it together! Bonus!

All you need is:Tips on making your own homemade beauty products for gifts

  • deep conditioner
  • a shotglass full of Vodka
  • your favourite Essential Oil – I like Coconut, Lime, Rose, or Vanilla
  • a squeeze bottle or bottle with a pump top

Once you have all your ingredients gathered up simply combine them all in your bottle, shake, and decorate.

You could spray paint your bottle your friend’s favourite colour, stencil on a design, add a personalized label, or even mod-podge some glitter onto that bad boy!

Then all the recipient has to do is give the bottle a shake, spread it evenly through their hair, and allow it to soak in for 20 minutes before rinsing their hair thoroughly.

The alcohol will help to lower the pH levels in the hair which then causes the cuticles on each strand to close. Add to that the shine boosting power of the essential oil and you have yourself a hair treatment that packs a serious shine-boosting punch to any winter-stressed tresses.

Just make sure you include instructions with your bottle so the receiver knows what to do with it.

Pucker Up

I am a sucker for a nice deep red lip. I don’t know what it is, I just think they are sexy as hell. So with that being said, why not help your girlfriend embrace her inner wild-child with a sassy red lippy that is made from all natural ingredients, is cheap to make, and even has a hint of sweetness to it.

The process is simple, just round up:The recipe on how to make your own lip gloss

  • 2 Beets (or more if you want to make a big batch)
  • Olive Oil
  • Powdered Sugar
  • a small bowl
  • a small lip gloss container

If you aren’t really a fan of Beets, or you know your friend isn’t, you could always substitute the Beets with Pomegranates.

In fact, I already gave you girls a handy DIY recipe for making your own lip gloss using Pomegranates right here.

But I digress.

Once you have your ingredients, simply:

  • chop your Beets into small pieces
  • warm them in the microwave for around 45 seconds or until the red juice is released
  • in a small bowl, mix your Beet juice with a few drops of Olive Oil
  • give it a stir
  • mix in your Powdered Sugar until you have your desired consistency
  • stir until evenly combined
  • scoop your mixture into your lip gloss container
  • decorate the lid of your lip gloss container with a festive sticker or your friend’s name
  • apply using a lipstick brush or a Q-Tip, using your finger may stain it

Not only does this gloss taste sweet but it’s better for you, and the friends you give it to, than some of the store-bought lipsticks and glosses we tend to stock up on….and it’s super easy to make!

Just another reason why this year I’m saving myself the shopping stress and making homemade beauty products for gifts this Holiday Season.

Speaking of which…

Bronzed Beauty

For those of us who live in areas that tend to get smashed by winter weather, or don’t see the sun for days at a time, you know all too well that our skin can get a little…well…pale.

Sure you could hit up the tanning beds, but they are just terrible for your overall health. Alternatively, you could make your own DIY tanning spray but really, when the colder weather hits you usually don’t show that much skin.

Sometimes all we need is that pop of bronzing powder to bring a little life back into our cheeks, and what better way to do that then with a little sugar and spice.

Oh yes ladies, I’m talking about making your own bronzing powder using Cinnamon and Sugar.

Similar to recipes already listed, this homemade beauty product is all natural, gentle on your skin, gives that pop of colour we all crave during those sun-deprived days, and best of all, will make you smell amazing…or should I say make your friends smell amazing!

The process is simple, all you need is:

  • an empty makeup container – think blush or a single eyeshadow pod
  • Cinnamon
  • Powdered Sugar
  • your favourite Essential Oil

When you have all of your ingredients ready to go, in a small bowl mix:

  • equal parts Cinnamon and Sugar – depending on how light or dark you want your powder
  • a few drops of your chosen Essential Oil which will help to bind the mixture
  • mix the ingredients together until evenly combined
  • scoop into your makeup container

Once your mixture is in your chosen container, press down lightly to make sure it sticks together. Then decorate your container with either a label, a sticker, or even some glitter.

And if you are feeling extra-generous, why not include a new blush brush with your gift. After all, we ladies can never have enough brushes and tools to beautify ourselves with!

Lather Up Ladies

My final suggestion for making your own homemade beauty products for gifts is a DIY recipe that makes for a badass pressie, no matter what season it is…but it’s extra awesome for our winter-ravaged, dry, itchy skin.

It’s a luxurious lotion that not only hydrates your skin, but you can make it in bulk and gift it to as many gal pals as you wish!

Just gather up:Recipes for homemade beauty products as gifts

  • 1/2 cup of Distilled Water
  • 1/2 cup Olive Oil
  • 1 tbsp of Lecithin – a fatty substance found in both plant and animal tissues
  • 8 drops of Geranium Oil
  • 3 drops of Myrrh Oil
  • 2 open capsules worth of Vitamin E Oil

While some of these ingredients may be unfamiliar to you, you should have no problem finding them at your local health food store. From there, simply follow:

  • combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend on high until you get a nice creamy consistency
  • add more water if you think your lotion to be too thick
  • scoop your lotion into a clean glass jar
  • store in a cool place or make a note for the recipient to store in a cool place

Since you are using a larger jar for this gift, your decoration options are endless. Sure you could customize each jar using the decorations I mentioned previously or you could get even more funky and decorate your jar by mod-podging a bold fabric onto the jar, a picture of you and your friend, or a quote that reminds you of your friendship with that person.

Embrace your inner creativa (get it? It’s creativity and diva smashed together…yeah…I’m clever today) and make each jar special to the specific person you are giving it to.

Following that, arrange all your homemade beauty products into a large basket or gift bag, add some coloured tissue paper, maybe some ribbon, and a heartfelt card. The effort won’t go unnoticed and your friend will appreciate how much time you put in to making such a thoughtful pressie!

Now is it just me or did the Holiday gift-giving season just get a lot more enjoyable?
