What is Facial Yoga

Facial yoga carries the same principles as your full body yoga practice. It aims to relax your mind and tone your muscles, in this case, your facial muscles.

It is a series of exercises that help you build muscle in your face to preserve the smoothness of your younger years.

Simple Facial Yoga Exercises You Can Do At Home

There are several different facial yoga exercises you can do that target different areas of your face. Let’s take a closer look at some of them.

For a Smoother Forehead

The move: Open your eyes as wide as you can. The wider the better and then hold them open until you can’t any longer or until your eyes begin to water.

This move is essentially the opposite of what you do when you frown or furrow your brow. It’s forcing the muscles around your eyes and forehead to work harder to smooth out forehead wrinkles.

Repeat several times daily.

For Tawt Cheeks

The move: Puff your cheeks up like you were holding in a deep breath and pushing the air from the inside out, like a chipmunk with a full mouth.

Pass the air from one cheek to the next until you need to catch your breath.

This move works to keep your cheeks looking tight and firm. As we age we tend to start looking a little hollow through the cheeks and our skin here becomes thinner. This helps prevent that.

For Reducing Eye Wrinkles

The move: Essentially you are going to do a reverse eye wink. A regular eye wink requires your upper eyelid to meet the lower. For this facial yoga exercise move you want to try and do it in reverse, meaning winking with your lower lid.

This feels incredible awkward at first, but in time you will start to feel your lower lid moving up to meet your upper lid.

Eye wrinkles, also known as crow’s feet, are one of the first tell tale signs of aging on your face. This exercise helps tighten the skin around these areas for smoother, younger looking eyes.

For Tighter Chin and Neck

The move: Place the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth. Holding your tongue there, smile, lift your chin to the ceiling and try to swallow.

Sounds tough, right.

Well, it is!

This move works at tightening your neck and chin though because it strengthens the muscles surrounding your neck, chest and collarbone.

It’s easy to forget about your neck when it comes to anti aging, but the skin on your neck and chest often tell your age more than your face simply because we forget to take care of them.
