I like to get my hurrrrrr did, face did, nails did, errrrthing did. Don’t you? It’s nice to pamper yourself, but when you’re on a budget it’s not always reasonable. And if I’m being perfectly honest, some days you couldn’t pay me enough to leave my house. This is why DIY TLC is essential.
Today, we’re DIY’ing some serious nail art. I’m not particularly creative, but even I can nail down (pun intended!) some fun designs. It’s all about knowing your limits and working within them.
So let’s nail it, shall we?
I’m hilarious today.
Quick and Easy DIY Nail Art
One of my all-time favourite DIY nail art tricks is to newspaper print my phalanges. You’re just going to need a few things:
- White Polish
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Top Coat
- Cotton Balls
Once you’ve rounded up your supplies, follow these steps:
Step 1 – Cut out little sections of newspaper with print on them. If you’ve got 10 fingers, you’re going to want 10 sections cut.
Step 2 – Paint your entire nail white. Give it time to set before moving on to the next step.
Step 3 – Now that your nails are dry, soak them in a little bowl of rubbing alcohol for a few seconds. Remove your finger from the alcohol and place one newspaper cut out over your wet nail. Dip a cotton ball in the alcohol and place the drenched cotton ball over your newspaper print for 1 minute. This should be more than enough time for the ink to rub off.
Step 4 – Gently pull back your newspaper piece to expose your newly printed nail. Top with clear polish and move onto the next finger.
This process can be a little time consuming, but looks oh-so-cool!
I love a good nautical-inspired outfit so it’s only fitting that I would also love a nautical-themed nail. This one is also incredibly easy to do.
You will need:
- Navy blue polish
- White stickers
- Top Coat
Step 1 – Start by painting your nails navy blue.
Step 2 – Cut skinny strips with the white stickers and place over your nearly-set navy nails. Two strips is sufficient.
Step 3 – Snip off any overlapping sticker then top off your nail with a clear coat. Wear some red accessories and you are ready to set sail matey!
And yes, I’m aware it is Fall. And yes, I still love nautical nails.
Just to prove how idiot proof this is, I’ve included step by step photos of me doing this. You should really be impressed.
- Tin Foil
- Colored Nail Polish
- Top Coat
Got that sorted? Good. Now you just have to:
Step 1 – Cut your tin foil into little nail-sized triangles.
Step 2 – Using the colored polish, paint your nail. Allow it to dry until the point that it’s tacky and still malleable.
Step 3 – Place one triangle over your nail. The polish should act like glue to hold it in place. Snip off any tin foil that doesn’t cover your nail. Cover with top coat and let dry.
This one is super fun if you’re looking for a pop of color and digging the metallics. Just make sure to place the super shiny side upwards so it doesn’t look dull.
