Why Do I Have Cellulite??
So how do we get it in the first place?
It’s a little hard to explain in simple terms, but basically cellulite occurs over a 3 stage process:
- Fat and fluid starts to accumulate below our skin, expanding each fat cell up to 500 times their normal size.
- Skin becomes inflamed due to the excess fat cells and fluid causing an increase in toxins, followed by further fluid retention.
- Fibrosis is the final stage and this occurs when fat and fluid deposits become too great, causing connective skin tissue to become thin and weak. This then results in a sagging effect which is the common appearance of cellulite.
Here’s a few causes that can lead to cellulite.
There are a number of factors, 3 of which are the most common that we’ll outline quickly here:
- Poor Diet
- Lack of exercise
Firstly hormonal related cellulite can occur with anyone, no matter what weight you are. There is reason to believe that improper estrogen levels can effect things like insulin, thyroid hormones and even adrenaline in some cases.
Upsetting your bodies natural stabilizers can lead to an influx in fat deposits below your skin. As well as that, extra fluid can also be produced leading to the inflammation of fat cells as mentioned in the first step above.
Finally a poor diet and lack of exercise can obviously lead to an increase in fat reserves, but more importantly can increase unwanted levels of toxins that can lead to inflammation. It’s this inflammation of fat cells that is ultimately the main cause of cellulite and NOT an increase in general fat deposits.
Here’s How Most Cellulite Creams Work
Now that we know the three stages of cellulite, it’s obvious that we just need to find a cream that addresses these and prevents them from occurring in the future. It’s incredibly important that if you are currently falling behind on one of the above 3 causes of cellulite, that you focus on changing your lifestyle, which in our opinion is the best treatment in regards to long term results.
There are however some products that can speed up the time taken to remove the signs of cellulite.
Basically there are two types of creams:
- Those that work to remove the appearance of cellulite.
- Those that work to actually reduce cellulite.
The majority of products on the market are aesthetic-type creams, which work by quickly eradicating the appearance of cellulite by bringing down inflammation. Most use a small list of ingredients to help temporarily firm skin, which then leads to a flattening effect, reducing the saggy appearance of cellulite.
The problem is once the application has worn off(usually lasts a couple of hours), your skin will return to its previous state and cellulite will once again become visible.
The creams that work on the effects of cellulite instead focus on the root causes. Although they may take a couple of days to start working, in the long term you will see more manageable results.
The key in our opinion is not to focus on the burning of fat cells, but to instead work to reduce the level of toxicity just below your skin. What this will do is reduce inflammation which is the REAL CAUSE OF CELLULITE!
All in all, here’s what you should be looking for in a great product.
Things You Should Look For In A Great Cellulite Cream
To make sure you stay away from the scammy products, we’ve laid out things that you should look for in a product that will and will not work:
Here’s what a cream SHOULD do:
- Help to reduce toxins in your skin that can lead to inflammation.
- Help to reduce overall fat deposits below your skin(most effective via a boost in metabolism)
- Help improve skin elasticity and firmness over time.
- Work within the space of 2-3 days.
And here’s what a cream SHOULD NOT do:
- Focus ONLY on burning fat cells below the skin.
- Negatively effect the normal production of collagen and elastin.
- Cause any irritation or redness.
- Show only short term results.
- Cost too much!
